My name is Diana, a filmmaker based in North Cyprus. From February 2nd to 24th, I will be in Istanbul shooting a poetic documentary titled 'Nostalgia for a City I’ve Never Been To.'

The project stems from a personal experience during the tragic events of  "Bloody January" (Qandy Qantar) 2022 in my home country of Kazakhstan. Displaced and anxious, I found an inexplicable solace in Istanbul—a sensation of Déjà Visité (already visited). The city felt anciently familiar, as if I were accessing a genetic memory of safety.

Now, I return to investigate this phenomenon. Through atmospheric visuals and interviews, this film explores the intersection of displacement and memory, asking: Is it possible to miss a place you are visiting for the first time?
